The Network also provides a framework for local voluntary sector organisations which have a focus on adults with learning disabilities, to discuss points of mutual interest and concern.
The Network aims to elect and support voluntary sector representatives on the Nottinghamshire and Nottingham City Learning Disability Partnership Boards. It helps representatives to express the broader views of the voluntary sector at the board meetings.
Information and feedback from the board meetings is shared at Network meetings. This gives the sector a chance to discuss the work of the Board and make comment on their plans for implementing 'Valuing People'.
Newark & Sherwood CVS and the Partnership Development Team provide valuable logistical support for the network.
Jan Harding from Bassetlaw Learning Disability Association, Keith Lancaster from NORSACA and Ian Smellie from Nottingham Mencap, have been elected as voluntary sector reps for the County and City Learning Disability Boards respectively and strive to use opportunities at the board meetings to give a Voluntary Sector perspective on issues of current priority.
The network is open to all voluntary groups or organisations with a focus on adults with learning disabilities in the City of Nottingham or County of Nottinghamshire.
The Network is keen to build up the membership of the group and attendance at meetings, which alternate between the South and North of the County.
The Network maintains a mailing list of members. All get copies of the meeting notes even if they cannot attend.
If your organisation would like to join the network, contact Val Gardiner at Newark & Sherwood CVS (01636 613693).
