Plain Language Group

Does gobbledygook and jargon annoy you?

Do you like public information to be clear and easy to understand?

Do you have time to spare?

If so, you might like to join Nottinghamshire Plain Language Group.

Plain Language Group

We welcome anyone who is interested in improving the quality of public information for all members of the community.

No special skills or qualifications are needed!

What will I have to do?

  • Read drafts of information that are sent to you
  • Comment on how clear and understandable the information is. Please be honest and constructive

You are not expected to re-write any information in plain language – that’s the job of the person who wrote it in the first place.

Is there any guidance to help me?

We send you a checklist of things to consider with every document you are sent. Some people find this helpful and write their comments on it. Others prefer to make notes directly on the documents. Either way is fine.

The co-ordinators are also there to support you so if you have any questions you can always contact them.

What about if I’m too busy to read something?

Information is always sent to more than one person so just let us know if you don’t have time.
