Closure of Voluntary Patient Transport Scheme
Newark & Sherwood CVS Voluntary Patient Transport Scheme, which was funded by Newark & Sherwood Clinical Commissioning Group, will cease to operate as of 30th November 2019 due to a withdrawal of funding. The service has been delivered by a team of dedicated staff and volunteers for more than 30 years providing over 3000 patient journeys covering non-urgent to on-going oncology appointments each year.
CEO Madeleine O’Sullivan said ‘The news is a great disappointment to both patients and volunteers. The Voluntary Patient Transport Scheme was unique in that it provided a service to patients who were not always eligible to use other schemes. Volunteer drivers provided more than just transport giving both emotional and physical support to vulnerable older clients.’
Door to Door Newark & Sherwood CVS’s Social Car Scheme will continue to run and is not affected by the changes. For more information about Door to Door please go here or call 01636 611220.
