Chernobyl Children's Lifeline

Chernobyl Children's Lifeline is a charity that hosts groups of children from Ukraine and Belarus for fun and healthy (free) holidays in the UK. This provides the children with a break from an area which is still experiencing the debilitating effects of the aftermath of the Chernobyl Nuclear disaster from 1986. The Newark and Sherwood link works with a school in the village of Molotkovichi in Belarus. We host one group of children each year during the summer, accompanied by an English speaking certified Leader / Russian interpreter. Being away from such an environment for just a few weeks can have a significant effect on the child's health and wellbeing and outlook of the world. These children return to their communities with the comforting knowledge that the outside world has not forgotten about them. The success of our work depends on the commitment and goodwill of volunteer host families throughout the UK who receive these children in to warm and loving homes.
